When Coco Chanel said that, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must be different” she turned out to be right about especially with the growing rate of creativity, most of the people work on being unique. The Cayman Islands is an example of what Coco Chanel was talking about. Back in the 198o’s, Cayman’s good political stability, peaceful and welcoming people, and great business opportunities were among the major factors which led to the growth of tourism sector in the Cayman Islands. It was until Luther Miller’s research during the time that opened the eyes of the Cayman’s Island to shift to a level of uniqueness. Luther noticed the commonness of resources among most islands in the Caribbean and thus alerted the Cayman’s Islands government to try and find other methods different from the turquoise seas and beautiful beaches which would attract more tourists each year compared to other islands. To date, the Cayman’s tourism sector has kept on booming each year. Despite the commonness of resources among islands in the Caribbean, such as the beaches, mountains and other beautiful sceneries, the Cayman government on the other hand have taken different routes in making its tourism sector unique and hence attracting more visitor each year. There are several factors that have led to the increased number of tourists visiting the islands. Some of the factors include presence of unique beautiful sceneries which stand out from other islands, its proximity to the United States of America and being a tax haven Island, the tourism sector in the Cayman Islands tends to gain more to the nation’s economic sector unlike any other department. Presence of this factors and others have led to increased international tourists visiting the Cayman Islands and thus led to the boost of the Cayman’s economy.

“In the
Eighties, the friendliness of the people, the stability of the government and
the sound economy, coupled with proximity to mainland US and business
opportunities that were rapidly growing were all considered reasons for
Cayman’s superior growth in its tourism product, according to Miller. However,
he warned that territories in the Caribbean had offerings which duplicated
themselves, such as the spectacular beaches and turquoise seas. He ventured that
they needed a product in order to attract visitors, and Cayman clearly had
already established itself as a tourism destination because the number of
repeat visitors it already attracted, proving that theory, he said.”
Turnbull,
Lindsey. “Then & Now: Cayman's
Present-Day Tourism Industry.” Caymanian Times, 6 Sept. 2019.
With building of 5-star
hotels, retail outlets, wonderful
restaurants complementing to the beautiful beaches and sceneries, Lindsey
explains how this resources have contributed to the growth of industry in
Cayman. Lindsey not only talks about the growth in the tourism sector, but also
uses statistical evidence of numbers of increased tourism from different years
which evidently shows the tourism sector is booming.
Lindsey's article clearly promotes
the island's tourism, and it is straight forward, positive enough to encourage investors or even tourists to visit
the country even though it is not a commercialized article. The article
promotes positivity as much as it is educative to people who are looking
forward to start up a business in the Island.
